During 2019 and the beginning of 2020, Wilson Downtown Development announced many great projects, both new-build and redevelopment of existing properties in Historic Downtown Wilson. Even though things have changed globally in March and April, we believe our #downtownturnaround can keep moving forward!
We want you to know that the health and safety of the Wilson community at large, as well as that of downtown’s residents, workers, and visitors, is of the utmost importance to us in downtown development. We also want you to know that, right now, downtown businesses and nonprofits need your help more than ever. We urge you, when making purchases, to think first about supporting small, locally owned businesses and nonprofits in Historic Downtown Wilson and around the community. We encourage you to be intentional, active, and creative in your support of Wilson’s #downtownturnaround!
To get you started, we have compiled a list of downtown restaurants, drinkeries, shops, and service businesses that are offering their goods and services in a variety of ways: in-store/office service, pickup/takeout, order/service via phone, online shopping options, and online gift cards available. For your convenience, we have installed curbside pickup/takeout zones in front of downtown restaurants/drinkeries.
Spring time is usually the time of year that we all look forward to special events happening downtown. This year will be a little different. We hope to be able to have some events soon but, in the meantime, have launched a new Facebook Group, Wil’t’son Limelight, to support our local performing artists and provide entertainment. Calendars of events, both actual and virtual, may be found on the Historic Downtown Wilson Facebook events page and at ExploreWilson.com.
Finally, visit the Historic Downtown Wilson COVID-19 page to find a list of safe, innovative, and healthy ways to support the downtown community and other small businesses during this unusual time when we may not support many of them by physically visiting their storefronts. Wilson has a long history of self reliance, resiliency and supporting our own in difficult times. We believe, with your help, this time will be no different.
